Why is global trading business so GREAT!

With internet and technology, the world has shrunk dramatically. You can call someone overseas for next to nothing per minute, or you can use an internet phone to cut the cost completely. Use your web-site and trading portal, and you are able to find and be found by others even when you are sleeping. Not to mention how big the business is: according to the U.S. Department of Commerce, manufactured goods importing is to the tune of more than $1.34 trillion. It is important to note that these figures are for manufactured goods only and do not include resources, raw materials, foodstuffs, oil and/or energy products. In one year alone, American companies exported $659 billion in manufactured merchandise to 226 foreign countries.

Furthermore, it is not only a business for the corporate trader anymore. There are more and more people, just like me, coming out of their 9-5 jobs, and becoming global traders, and they do everything directly from the comfort of their home (see home business). If you ever think about the competition, just note the fact that according to the U.S. Department of Commerce, large companies sell only about 4 percent of all exports. Which means that the other 96 percent of export sales--the majority share of the business--is wide open to the start-up entrepreneur.

Why, after centuries of existence, is import export still this hot and getting hotter? Because simply said, the world is abundant, and there are always things that are not available in your home country. Oil, for example, is something everyone desires but nobody is able to produce as much as the middle eastern countries.

Image is another reason. America is the best in the world at creating brand image. American music, Hollywood movies, to name a couple. Every country has its own special image that is irreplaceable such as German beer and Scandinavian furniture.

Some products, no matter how you go around the corner to cut the cost to produce them domestically, are just cheaper in other countries due to a variety of reasons. This by far the greatest attraction of importing which explains the great success of Walmart.

Now, if these are not enough reasons for "why you should be in the import export business", then maybe you should just give it a shot. By actually doing it, you might find far more reasons anybody can ever explain to you. After all, the beauty of import export, believe or not, is that you can start the business from basically nothing.
